WADA, Masahiro: Overall
"It was frustrating to give up the goal and in hindsight we should have taken one of the many counter chances we had to seal the game. Still, they were also going for the win at home so we are satisfied to have prevented them from grabbing another to take the game. The players are tired after this run of 5 matches so we will take this week to prepare for the next match."
La Famiglia: This would have been a rather entertaining match to watch for a neutral - plenty of end-to-end football and chances. For yours truly, it was somewhat nerve-wracking. Neither side gave up much in the first half and the 0-0 scoreline at the break probably reflected the overall balance of play. However, Vissel came out firing in the second half and scored a well-deserved opener within 10 minutes thanks to Ogawa pressing the byline and cutting back a pass for Okubo to slot home. The introduction of Higashi and Ishihara injected energy into the Omiya attack, but I thought we would be able to hold on and perhaps even snatch a second from one of the many counter opportunities we had. Ogawa was phenomenal in the second half, pushing deep up both wings causing them all kinds of problems. They started to do the same, though, and our fragility at both left and right back was quickly found out. They eventually got the equalizer through a nice bit of play on the left side of the penalty area by Higashi who slammed home from an angle what looked like a wonder goal. The replay, however, showed that the ball actually rebounded off 2 players. Personally, I didn't understand the decision to take off Botti. He was totally dominating the midfield up until his substitution and, coincidence or not, they got their goal a minute later. Wada needs to do something about Gakuto and Mogi at the back. They're not good enough.
