WADA, Masahiro: Overall "It was a really tough game and we are glad to get the 3 points. I felt we played very well in the first half, grabbing an early goal and pretty much controlling the play throughout. However, I told the players at half time that it wouldn't finish at 2-0 and asked them to go for the third goal which they did. We knew what they wanted to do by bringing on Davi and Kim for the second half, using their height for long balls and set plays. Despite the fact that they got back into the match with 2 goals, I had faith in the players I selected to hang on, and Tanaka sealed it for us, finally, with his 2nd chance!"
ISHIBITSU, Yosuke: Was the ex-manager Miura factor relevant? "Yes, it felt like a revenge match." You ran to the bench after your goal "I ran through on goal trying to get the timing right, got a nice back-heel pass and put it away. I wasn't really conscious of the fact I ran to the bench. My body just took me there."
La Famiglia: Great match for the neutrals, but who cares about them! As the manager said, we really did control the match for most of the first half, but they certainly didn't put up much of a fight. Their passing was schoolboy at times, and we capitalized the many errors they made. For once, I agreed with Wada's team selection and the timing of the Yoshida-Okubo substitution was appropriate. This would have been a classic victory for Vissel had we not let them back into the match with some sloppy defending. In all honesty, had the opposition been one of 13 or 14 other teams in the league, I think we may have dropped the 2 points after that major slip in concentration in the second half. But, we didn't, so woo hoo!! |
