It's about time we had something to smile about. "Spring has come!" The first real warm, sunny day we've had this year brought some fortune back to Kobe with Vissel shining for the first time since the second game of the season. I'll be honest, following the terrible run of form, I was literally more confident of getting a half decent bowl of Mumbai madness at the pre-match curry fair outside the stadium than getting a result against the champions. As it turned out, the boys in yellow weren't as impressive as I remember them at Universiade last summer, but I'd like to believe that it was us who prevented them from playing their game with a spirited, inspiring performance that lifted us up where we belong, far from the world we know, where the clear winds blow - to 11th place. Nozawa finally got his first goal of the campaign, as you'd expect from a screaming free kick, and Ogawa and Tashiro both opened their 2012 accounts, too. Speaking of Tashiro, it wasn't surprising to see him start the match following his good second half showing (sub) in the loss to Niigata on Wednesday. He does appear to be one of those forwards who is forever whining about something, but so is our best player. I felt it was worth having him there just for the annoyance factor, not to mention he's a great header of the ball in front of goal. Some other noteworthy performances were Okui at right back who I think has shown enough potential recently to justify his starting position for the foreseeable future. He's faster than Gakuto and has better ball control. Lee was immense at center back. I reckon he and Komoto would be an awesome combination. Can't wait. Okubo also put in a gutsy shift despite the usual antics. And last but not least, what a rousing reception Kunie got after coming on as a sub in the second half. That was the kind of substitute that is normally not needed at that point in the game, but certainly inspired us to push on to the end. Glad to see him back. Glad to see Vissel back.
