The club announced today the transfer of midfielder Norio Suzuki to French Ligue 2 side Angers. I first heard this rumor last week, and following my initial reaction of disbelief, I came to the conclusion that a loan move for a relatively young player who is not getting much first team action this year could be good for us.
It's not a loan move.
Suzuki, still only 25, was one of our better players in 2008 and a crowd favorite. With his experience in the J.League and even a few appearances in the U-20 and U-23 national squads, I thought the club saw him as a key part of our plans for the next few years.
Apparently not.
So what did we get out of this deal?
Apart from cutting our huge wage bill a tad, I suspect nothing. Angers are in the French 2nd division which would indicate that this was not exactly a big money move. I assume he went on a free - or close to it.
So what are Caio/Adachi planning? Are they going to strengthen our "ACL spot challenge!!" with another fat, lazy, overpaid loan move?
Can't wait.
