Post Match Comments
WADA, Masahiro: Overall "We wanted to get something out of this match after the disappointing draw against Fukuoka last Wednesday, but it wasn't to be. Even when we had a lot of possession in the first half, Yamagata dropped back and we were not able break them down."
YOSHIDA, Takayuki: Overall "Our play today was terrible and I was also disappointed in myself despite being my first start in a while." What's missing? We were unable to link up vertically due to the enormous space between our midfield and the front (in attack) and the back (in defense). The latter left us exposed and they took advantage of that.
OKUBO, Yoshito: Overall "I hardly touched the ball in the second half. I had to drop in a defensive midfield role in the first half to try to build something from the back, but we didn't really scare them at all. Morioka took over this role in the second half so I could push forward but I hardly got the ball."
La Famiglia: Yet another frustrating match. Many of the players' post match comments pointed to the distance between our midfield and forwards preventing us from linking up and this was quite evident when watching the match. However, normally a manager would see this as a positive and try to put pressure on the opposition up the middle by inserting a player to create a link-up. Wada didn't do this. He persisted with Tokura who was bordering on embarrassing at times with his lack of control and inability to stay on his feet, and the substitutions did not reflect what we were lacking. |
